Meet the Helldrake, Maulerfiend, Forgefiend, Warpsmith, and the Warp Talons. Now that introductions are out of the way, I have a feeling we will all become very acquainted with these models in the very near future. A huge thanks to our anonymous source for providing us with our first look at these new models.
Anyone else think that dragon is about to eat an ork flyer?
Enjoy.....
They're here!!&!
ReplyDeleteSounds like Chaos found a Mars planet of their own! Iron Warriors should be very happy with the new book from the looks of things!
DeleteMother of god
ReplyDeleteLet the gawking commence!
ReplyDeleteSuck it DA trolls!
YA! suck it hard! GO NAFTKA AND JAYDEE!
Delete"Suck it." What an amazing way to prove that someone else is a "Troll". Way to take the moral high ground.
DeleteI'm sorry...can't hear your words through the slurping sounds.
DeleteThe trolls deserve such lowness.
DeleteMoral high ground? This is the Internet, there IS no moral high ground.
Deletelol :D
Deleteyou do understand that this is all + some fincast recasts, that csm will get?
you might be first but apart from doc.oc all the stuff looks like a bad warmachines rippoff
LMAO :D
You do realise that the rumors are chaos marines first then DA don't you?
DeleteNext, the DA troll will start to insult our mothers and sexual orientations. It's really sad.
DeleteThe DA trolls decerve to be hunted, made to repent and then be shot as is our custom. Between now and the new DA codex however, I will be content to start a warband and fall from the Emperor's grace.
DeleteP.S Reaction to Helldrake: OH SHIT!!!
I CAN FEEL THE WARP OVER TAKING ME, IT IS A GOOD PAIN!
ReplyDeleteThe power of chaos give us strength!!!
DeleteThis comment has been removed by a blog administrator.
ReplyDeleteTrololol
DeleteDA troll?
DeleteWell... My budget will be shot.
ReplyDeleteAwesome pics! Thanks natfka!
Awesome! I like the dragon.
ReplyDeletei swear when i posted that there where no other posts lmao, they look epic though!.
ReplyDeletecheers
Nahu
What can I say, I was an expectant man!
DeleteNow that's out of the way, as I thought, the Warp Talons are amazing. I'm not sold on the others just yet, the Helldrake may take some time.
ReplyDeleteHaha total opposite the warptalons were the only ones i wasnt sure about
DeleteYeah me too,
DeleteI was worried about the dragon but that looks good.
The warp talons little LC feet aren't doing it for me, do they get extra attacks for their foot LC's? ; )
The Warp Talons are gorgeous. The other models seem like they were sculpted for a different line of table top games. I'm sure I will love them with time.
DeleteOh...my...god...I think I will die on the keyboagrtgkjkqwer
ReplyDeleteOh and thanks Natfka! Now just get a pic of the dex too!
ReplyDeleteO.O!!!
ReplyDelete<3
ReplyDeleteAre there any pictures of the new "ordinary" CSM that were rumoured? Are they actually replacing the generic marines?
ReplyDeleteLooking at the 2 Fiend models I can't help but think:
ReplyDelete"OMG, they're finally allowing Juggernauts of Khorne back into the Chaos Marine Codex!"
One can dream...
You can put your lord on a Juggernaut in the current dex
DeleteNo codex?
ReplyDeleteTalons and drake are cool, the others not so much.
ReplyDeleteOH MY GOD!
ReplyDelete(Un)Holy Tzeentch! They're magnificient! Magnificient I tell you! Let the galaxy burn!
ReplyDeleteI like the new White Dwarf style of presentation shown in those pics
ReplyDeleteWasn't the Helldrake rumoured to be equipped with two butcher cannons? Can anyone see those in this picture?
ReplyDeleteTrue... I don't see any guns on it at all. This worries me.
DeleteMy guess would there built into the claws, you cannot get a good look due to the quality of the pic
DeleteLook at the claws more closely. To me it looks like gun barrels on the palms. Thus, two guns, or at the very least twin linked
DeleteJust looks like spikey bits in the hands, not convinced they are guns yet.
DeleteAnd as we all know, it doesn't matter until YOU'RE convinced...
Deleteziiiiiiiiiiiiiing!
DeleteI believe the correct term is "Bazinga"
DeleteChaos-gasm...... the best Chaos crack I had for some time!
ReplyDeleteI hope you're happy!
DeleteI really wanted these models to be rubbish but look at them!
Excuse me while I cry......
Ouch. Really not a fan of these. Forgefiend might be OK if it didn't have identical mouths at the end of each arm, but... nah, the aesthetic doesn't do it for me at all.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the photos, though. Any chance of the White Dward contents page? I'm interested to see if it has any... content.
Not really a fan of these either. The Warp Smith is suitably tentacled, but the Warp Talons don't look significantly different from the converted ASMs I have been using for years. The fiend models are better than the current GW Dreadnought, but a step down from the Forgeworld ones. Hope the rules are not horrible. As for the Dragon, he's is a giant flyer, I will give it that much. But he's not going in my army, unless there is no other anti-flyer unit available in the new codex. Even then, I will probably kitbash my own.
DeleteRe: White Dwarf's content page - what part of you are buying an advertisement for Games Workshop products do you not understand? They could fill 80 pages with pictures of Ultramarines and keep the majority of their audience. Read newspapers for articles, but take White Dwarf the same way you to ads at the bus stop.
Some of us are old enough to remember when White Dwarf had proper content and wasn't just an advert. Nothing against advertising, but I can get adverts for free.
DeleteYeah, I really want to see that contents page. We can still hope that these pages and the cover are just an unpleasant obligation, and that there's some real magazine somewhere in there. Although I'm worried by the thought tha that if they had real content they'd probably advertise the fact on the cover...
DeleteOr since the cover is supposed to be an advertisement, it will be an advertisement for what's inside...
DeleteDoesn't make completely and total sense or anything.
Yes! That's what we need, real content!
DeleteAdverts aren't going anywhere, and Citadel finepaper is nice & all, but we need real content.
Let's hope for the best!
"Or since the cover is supposed to be an advertisement, it will be an advertisement for what's inside..."
DeleteEh? Not sure if you're agreeing or not. Anyway, yes, the cover typically advertises the contents, and this cover appears to have no contents to advertise. A Bad Sign, possibly.
The Forgefiend has 3 identical mouths because each one of those is an Ecto-whatever gun, str 8 ap 2 small blast.
DeleteZomgbbqsauce
ReplyDeleteAnd what's with the Dex? ^^ Is there a cover image?
ReplyDeleteI get it now!
ReplyDeleteSo the Forgefiend is the shooty variant of the new Daemon Engine, and the Maulerfiend is the close combat variant.
Awesome!
And yes, confirmation that the model on the front cover is indeed the ""fiend.
Oh god, the dragon and the walkers look like shit. But the warpsmith looks badass.
ReplyDeleteHey, seeing as this will be a popular thread- am I the only one troubled by enormous photos in the comment section? Seems people don't resize their avatars, and the site doesn't do it for them, and the result right now is a freaking enormous picture of a long-haired dude in sunglasses.
ReplyDeleteNow there's a huge lion... seriously guys, is it just me?
DeleteIt's just you.
DeleteDon't know why I picked this picture to be honest. Will get replaced when I've something better.
DeleteYes i don't see any of that at all. Tiny icons as usual.
DeleteAaaaaaah make it stop! Or make it smaller! Or make it sexy!
DeleteAny of the three is good, really.
Actually, switched browser and the lion is now normal size. Damn you, Firefox.
DeleteI tried to use a smaller picture but Google wouldn't allow it when I set up my profile.
DeleteI'm going to convert a miniature to look like me. Photograph it. Then be rid of the lion.
It'll be smaller, but I can't promise sexy.
Wow that ruined my budget
ReplyDeleteI can't believe this...the Helldrake is awesome! Way better than I envisioned it. The Warpsmith is a must have. The others...I'm going to make my own conversions, I think.
ReplyDeleteSame here. I had serious doubts about the Heldrake, but now that I see it, I want it. And if Chaos Marines follow the pattern of other armies, they'll have no other useful FA slots, so I'll just take 3 of them!
DeletePut a gun on the maulerfiend's back, and shazam, you've got a chaos biovore!
ReplyDelete...I'm not a huge fan of the fiend... It looks like a juggernaut had sex with a carnifex...
ReplyDelete... before falling asleep near an Iron Warriors paint shop on Tiki party night...
DeleteNot impressed...shame really
ReplyDeleteThanks for pictures! Fiends, warsmith and drake are helluva cool.
ReplyDeleteI've never expected I'd say this, but I don't like warp talons' look. Damn. I like old-style jump-packs and helmets much, much, much more, they made raptors look hunched and malignantly. Will have to buy old raptors for conversion, I guess. Thanks for photos once again!
I liked the Dragon at first glance until I saw the legs growing out of its shoulders, which looks weird. If there are legs at the back too it might look OK.
ReplyDeleteThe Forgefiend is just ugly, it has no head! Looks wrong. The Maulerfiend is growing on me, looks better from the side than it did from the front on the cover photo.
The Warpsmith is a mess. too busy, too much going on, and looks very much like a Necron to me, not Chaosy.
The Warp-Talons don't look too bad, but again they seem to have over-egged the pudding with too much encrusted detail. I think the Dark Vengeance Chosen were just the right side of that line, and these just the wrong side of it.
The Forgefiend's head is a gun. It's also a Daemon Engine, so 'head' isn't necessarily necessary.
DeleteStill waiting for a Hellbrute to appear. I know it will like similar to Mortus Metallikus (the DV one) but I really want to see the regular one
ReplyDelete1. Fiends looks like Dinobots, not very inspiring, maybe they are going to be better live.
ReplyDelete2. where is codex?
This all looks cool, but how the hell am I supposed to transport that Helldrake?
ReplyDeleteIs there any news/rumours if Chaos is getting a similar thing to drop pods?
ReplyDeleteDreadclaws are Forgeworld models. As it stands, there are none in the codex
DeleteOne more important notice:
ReplyDeleteLook at the Warp Talons' jump pack.... yes it's pre-heresy stuff!
Thanks for the pictures!
ReplyDeleteThe Dragon is the only one I actually like. Though the angle on the picture is a bit off to get a proper view, it looks cool.
I think the Forge- and Warpfiend look like mechanic dinosaurs that could have run straight from the Power Rangers TV show to the 40k universe. The Warpsmith looks like a mechanical Medusa. That's not bad in itself, but the model is just too... crowded, busy, I don't know how to describe it. That one might grow on me though. The Warp Talons on the other hand look like fat, little baby daemons to me.
I personally think that the ****fiends look awesome (trip plasma cannons zomgwtfbbqsauce!) but I ask not assembling/painting that warpsmith. I'm just going to use my metal iron warriors warsmith for a counts as.
DeleteI wonder what/who was that forgefiend before it mutated?
ReplyDeleteDino from the Flintstones
DeleteIt kind of looks like a juggernaut bound into the chassis of a warmachine. Why do I have to eat and pay rent? WHYYYYY?
DeleteHmm, liking what I'm seeing so far but can't help but feel something is a bit out of place. No mention of a codex and a plastic flyer, plastic MC, FC blister and FC/plastic 5-man set seems on the small side for a codex release.
ReplyDeleteThen again, that many new units warrants more than a simple WD update regardless of the new style. I'm confused, If the codex is released next month then where is it and all the other releases?
so no codex then? very disappointed in that, sounds purely like the codex daemons update we had in white dwarf. Still, nice models, shut up and take my money time!
ReplyDeleteNatfka, are there still more pictures incoming?
ReplyDeleteThe Helldrake is crazy! The Fiends are making me think Chaos Tyranids. Hmm...
ReplyDeleteAny info on the most important thing-the codex?
ReplyDeleteOMFFFFFFFFGGGGGGGGGGGGG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteLooks like shit, i am very disappointed. Especially the warptalons look like the warp brought them back from the 80ies. They look like toys from various ranges, some dinos mixed in.
ReplyDeleteGW, you make me dissapoint.
Agreed. I think Dark Vengeance was already heading in that direction, but managed to avoid going too far. This is waaaaaaay far.
DeleteI was going to mention that too, too much of comics from 80s, while FW has chosen direction of realistic look of their minies. Damn, those warp talons are killing me.
DeleteI normally dislike vulgar comments on this wonderful site. But I just came one time for each picture. I think I ran out of testicle.
ReplyDeleteChaos Robin Dinos? I don't like that new style.
ReplyDeleteBut the new warp talons are really cool and the warpsmith is eben better. Dark mechanicum for the win
Anyone else notice that the Forge and Mauler Fiends are on the Large Oval Bases? They are very big models.....they look to be Tervigon sized.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I have to say, even though most rumours have said the 'Fiends are AV12 walkers, looking at the models and their size, I can't fathom how they could be AV12 walkers. They are way too big to be AV12, and they are also way too big to be walkers.
Sounds fishy to me. Hopefully Naftka's source posts hints about the rules for them?
They probably will have 4 hull points like the Defiler, and the It Will not Die special rule. When I first read that rule I immediately thought it would suit a huge monstrosity like the Defiler and now the fiends. We'll have to wait and see.
DeleteAv12 doesn't surprise me, given that the Defiler is a little bigger and is the same. Besides, if they do end up getting a 5+ invul from the Daemon rule, then it should help a bit.
DeleteAv12 doesn't surprise me, given that the Defiler is a little bigger and is the same. Besides, if they do end up getting a 5+ invul from the Daemon rule, then it should help a bit.
DeleteFour hull points, a 5+ invulnerable save, a 5+ regenerate hull points save (essentially), and according to other rumours, the ability to regrow destroyed weapons/repair immobilized.
DeleteThat sounds great, but when you see other rumours placing the 'Fiends' cost at around 170+ and being only AV12 you can see why I am a bit concerned.
I think in this case a lot of people who are disappointed right now will come around.
ReplyDeleteChaos has been "imperials with spikes" for a long time and the majority of us agreed it needs to change; but of course any departure from this norm will look out of place for a while.
My first reaction to most of these models was "nice model, but doesn't fit in the army visually." Guess what? This is the new visual style for Chaos. In a few years it'll be the spiky Rhinos that will seem out of place, and armour-plated beasts will be normal.
exactly, its like the complaining about thunderwolves when they appeared
DeleteI think it is awsome that GW further separates codices, there shouldnt be blue marines, red marines, yellow marines, spiky marines... they should be separated with things like this
luckily CSM do not need rhinos in 6th ed!
DeleteEh, difference is good, it's the execution of that difference I can't love. To my mind Chaos marines should be Marines plus hideous/weird mutations, not mechanical-looking dinobeasts. But I'm sure there's plenty of fans.
DeleteJust 3 plastic kits? And no Codex announcement?
ReplyDeleteThis may not be everything in the WD.
DeleteWe've also got to remember that the codex is still apparently a fortnight away from the WD release.
Anyone notice that the WD cover says just 'new citadel miniatures'. No mention of a codex. Comparatively, for the HH it says 'new book'.
DeleteYeah, I don't think there's a codex. Which means either White Dwarf rules or no rules, I guess.
Delete@Anonymous (7:45) - The codex and models were due for release at the same time; announced in Games Day and White Dwarf. I'm surprised at this, I thought they would make it clearer that there is a codex.
DeleteOn the upside, if there is no codex, Games Workshop will bear the brunt of the biggest simultaneous nerd rage the world has ever seen.
Agreed. I don't even collect Chaos, but all this prick teasing really is winding me up. If there's no codex, and we have to wait for another month with GW playing coy and throwing us a morsel of information here and there I am literally going to explode. Literally.
DeleteOMG TY!!!!!!!!! now i wish i had not bought DV so i could have purchased more Helldrakes. Any word on prices? i am guessing $45-$55+ american for each kit.
ReplyDeleteNo clue, but I am betting everything is in the $60 range. With the exceptions of the talons, they will probably be $35 for 5.
DeleteThanks for the pictures!
ReplyDeleteOnly one i missed, a pic of the new codex...
Defiler is a huge AV12 walker...
ReplyDeleteI know, but....well I guess I'm holding out that these things are monstrous creatures. That'd be awesome.
DeleteIt's funny when you think about it, a fleshy daemon springing out of the Defiler chassis has a higher armour value than an actual Defiler lol
I certainly hope they are vehicles not MC's, the points cost will be much more reasonable.
DeleteReally liking what I'm seeing and the love Iron Warriors are getting as most of the models have been painted in their colour scheme.
ReplyDeleteWell, the Warp Talons are painted in Night Lords colors, the Forge Fiend in painted in Black Legion colors, the Dragon is painted in some scheme I can't identify. But yes, the Forge Fiend and the Warpsmith are painted to look like Iron Warriors.
DeleteI think the Dragon is painted in Black Legion colors, just black and Gold.
DeleteHonestly, to show off a model like this, that color scheme is the worst you can use, doesn't ebnefit the model at all, just makes it look like a black flying blob. The photo's quality doesn't contribute either, but that's not something to complain about.
So those are the centaur things Warseer guys mentioned?
ReplyDeleteThe Dragon looks cool, as do the Warp Talons. The Warpsmith however looks like some bulky necron.
ReplyDeleteNot quite sure what I should think about the two fiends. Guess I'l get 1 atleast and see if they are good on the tabletop before I get any more, because they are not that appealing to me yet. Might chance when I have the chance to see them as real models.
On another note:
The new style of the WD is (for me) worse than the old. Just one Model with its name per page with a red lit background?
Isn't the fact that they're dedicating magazine space to nothing but advertising miniatures a bigger problem? More space is worse, granted, but it's still all adverts you have to pay for...
DeleteI wonder if helldrake's wings could be folded for modelling reason. Another question is about raptors set - there are bits to build regular raptors (if the rumors are true), would be cool to get the pics.
ReplyDeleteLooking at the zoomed in left claw yiu can see a gun barrel.
ReplyDeleteGood spot!
DeleteGreat stuff! Thanks for all this Natfka!
ReplyDeleteThought this was 40k not friggen Warmachine, GW I am disappoint.
ReplyDelete92nd comment, w000000t! :)
ReplyDeleteI don't like the dragon... I'll wait for better images, but I don't know, it just looks wrong...
ReplyDeleteDear Emperor, while I have spend the last 10 years of my life worshipping you and your valiant Space Marine protectors I now feel it is time to tell you that based on the obvious superiority of the Chaos forces I will now be forced to seek your eventual (shall I say ... foreordained) demise.
ReplyDeleteWOW ... I NEVER wanted a Chaos army, but now ... now I'm not so sure.
The dragon looks like it will be a pain in the butt to carry around.
ReplyDeleteBut in either case, I can safely say the following right now, and I am very happy to say it;
Regardless of the rules, I will buy 1 Dragon, 1 Forgefiend and 1 Maulerfiend, as well as 1 Warpsmith.
If the rules for any of them turn out to be decent or better, I will buy doubles.
Hugely excited!
Do we know for sure that the tolons are FC? GW have been trying to bring as many things out as plastic boxes as the can.
ReplyDeleteAnd secondly, PLEASE MORE PICS PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE!
can anyone tell if the hell drake's back is curved? The flyer seems to sit at an angle but I just want to know if it's fuselage is bent.
ReplyDeleteThis is a very new take on Chaos. I am an older gamer and this doesn't excite me like Legions would have but it is a good direction in terms of the hobby. Variation is positive. Well done GW. (did i just say that?)
ReplyDeleteI have been waiting for this release for years, i have saved nearly £1000 for release day with so much anticipation.
ReplyDeleteNow after seeing these models i will be spending all my savings on Horus Heresy modeles from forgeworld. These are disgusting. GW should have gone down the Chaos Space Marine Legions route for this.
Because you will apparently spend the money on w40k anyway GW will not care if you do it for forgeworld or "normal" products.
DeleteNice sculpts and a nice full circle trip back to the Rogue Trader Chaos days, but not exactly my cup of tea. I also can't help but wonder if the brute+drake kits will come packaged with square bases for use in the soon to be updated Fantasy Chaos army books. One can easily add a seated Chaos Lord to open-non-spined areas on either of the 3 kits' backsides.
ReplyDeleteDino Bots are now part of the chaos codex... how lame.
ReplyDeleteHonestly I'm a bit underwhelmed other than the Warpsmith, maybe it's just because they are bad photos of other photos but the fiends look a bit too generic to me in terms of their silhouette, overall just not my thing, and I'm not sure what it is about them because I love the Hellbrute.
ReplyDelete...so...no pics of a dex?
ReplyDeleteI mean it says on the front 'new citadel miniatures chaos space marines', so is it just models and no dex? Please someone for all that is unholy get a pic of the dex in the dwarf so i can stop crying!!
Depressing isn't it. Waited all this time and its just a damn WD update by the looks of it.
DeleteWait until it comes out.
DeleteI doubt the very people that gave us these rumours would all be wrong about the fact that it is a CODEX and not a WD update.
Wait until it is in your hands people.
Now this is fine... without a codex, I can sit back and wait until my budget has somewhat improved...
ReplyDeleteBut they are nice models for sure... just not what I want now...
It would appear that the chaos lightning claws are straight...loyalists are you even trying?
ReplyDeleteHo man, Dakka's already having a hissyfit!
ReplyDeletethat is normal.
DeleteI just pee'd a lil.
ReplyDeleteWhy so many complains regarding missing codex info? Think logically: there are plenty of new models presented to be added into the old 5th dex by additional rules, there definitely should be new codex, just wait for couple of days for info to leak out.
ReplyDeleteP.S. I still feel numbness caused by new Chaos style. Not excited, not grieving, but have a feel that I was deceived (by my own expectations maybe). From the other hand, that Mechanicum zoo will be a new army style available, it reminds me of DE beastmasters' zoo, Phil Kelly was somewhere around, I swear.
http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_X1IWXuEbgXI/S6fgucMo-UI/AAAAAAAACXM/GH3I61ud7H4/s640/%5C%5Cwni2k02%5Cusers%5CRYANJ%5CMy%20Pictures%5Cdino%20bots%20transformers.jpg
ReplyDeleteThank you. That is awesome!
DeleteI like the new Warpsmith and Warp Talons well enough but the new daemon engines remind me a bit to much of Transformers: Beast Wars for them to have a place in my army.
ReplyDeleteBudget=Destroyed.
ReplyDeleteThere goes my next paycheck. I could not be more excited.
ReplyDeletei've been waiting a long time for these pics to surface and i have to say i'm not at all impressed. Defo look like Warmachine rip-offs,don't think much of new White dwarf cover either, looks very cheap, just hoping that content improves like we were told.
ReplyDeleteMy money is definitely reserved for Horus Heresy stuff nw
Not as chaotic looking as one would have expected.
ReplyDeleteI love the Maulerfiend! It looks vicious. Also, I tried to sharpen the images a bit: http://bawaaaghria.blogspot.de/2012/09/new-chaos-space-marines-white-dwarf.html (hope you don't mind a link here)
ReplyDeleteNow that I've managed to see the pictures on my TV as opposed to my iphone screen, I've just noticed something about the Forgefiend!
ReplyDeleteAre those "PLASMA CANNONS" on the sides?! Notice the charge coils along the top of the barrel and the pipe vents topped with skulls along the sides?
Apologies in advance to my missus, my wallet just became lost in the warp!
To be honest...I don't really dig it.
ReplyDeleteThe best of the lot is the warpsmith - but that could be because the quality of the pic isn't brilliant.
The Maulerfriend doesn't look to bad either, but it looks more like something from cryx privateer press...
everything else doesn't impress me much.
I just pooped in my Fire warrior armor
ReplyDeleteVorpal claws, really? Vorpal claws...did they hire somebody who is an AD&D fan to write the fluff? Not impressed with the fiends or flyer as a visual doesn't say Chaos to me, Warp talons seem to fit with DA chosen visual though and Warpsmith looks good. Any news on cover price? And where is the dex? No pic it didn't happen and it's DA this month :p
ReplyDeleteDV not DA chosen...Doh!
DeleteI dont like the models at all, there might be room for nice Conversions with the Dragon, but the Fiend models just suck the big one.
ReplyDeleteThe Warptalons are ok, but not great, some for the Warpsmith
I am a huge fan of the old juggernauts, and these models very much remind me of them. I really want a 360 view and more pics though to really get into some of the detail of these models.
ReplyDeleteThat's what I'm waiting for. Don't know why but the photographs tend to look worse than the 360 on the Games Workshop website.
DeleteI'm still hoping they won't be cool.
Not looking promising.
By the way, the Warp Talons remind me of the original metal Raptors which I liked.
Drats!
Those Daemon Engines are going to take a lot of converting to make them look 40k at all. They're basically Warhammer Fantasy models (and I'm getting more of a Skaven vibe off them than a Chaos one at that) with a few tubes attached here and there. Compare those to the Forge World Daemon Engine models and they just don't hold a candle to them. There's also far too much of an '80s metal album cover thing going on there, and I really hoped we had left overly bright, garish, clashing colours back in 2nd Edition (poor, poor Night Lords, back to electric blue again). The models we're being shown here don't stand up to the promise of the Dark Vengeance models, which were top-notch in design, sculpting and in the way the studio chose to paint them.
ReplyDeleteI don't think much of the new White Dwarf format, either. The layout is achingly generic and kind of amateurish, like it's been thrown together on a basic template in Microsoft Word. Also, they seem to have lost the ability to photograph models properly. When photographing models for a hobby that places great importance on painting skill, drenching those models in bright red light is an incredibly bad idea.
Seriously dude, those won't be the only pics of the models in the book. The pictures were obviously taken with the red lighting to create a mood or feeling of chaos. If these were the product pictures on the website you might have a point but you just sound like a serious whiner.
Delete(not the anon you're replying to)
Delete"those won't be the only pics of the models in the book"
Uuuurgh, don't say that. White Dwarf isn't going to be a glossy catalogue, anymore, right? They... they promised...
With the dragon and the fiends it could almost be a scene from a 40k Jurassic park. Techno dinosaurs. Not very impressed.
ReplyDeleteI like em. Considering these are pictures of pictures in a magazine with glossy paper, they don't look bad at all. Its nice to see Chaos finally moving away from the spike bit look.
ReplyDeleteAs far as the psuedo dino look, these are theoretically daemon engines. The more organic look fits with the artwork they have used lately for daemon engines, for FW stuff and FFG RPG stuff as well.
And honestly, no pics of the cover of the dex is fine...I could care less about the art on the cover, if I could see anything, I'd rather see a page or two from the units section for some of the new stuff.
I think everyone should stop moaning and just be happy that the chaos marines are getting some new models.
ReplyDeletethis is typical :
wait around for models & get excited -
when released : moan moan & moan. Deal with the new models and be patient for the codex.
Well said!
DeleteThough I'm moaning because I didn't want to collect chaos. Now I'm interested!
Curse you Games Workshop for producing good miniatures! Curse you!
Each to their own opinion. I was looking forward to starting a chaos army, but not so much now.
Delete*gasp* You mean ne content with something we've amped up and hyped up to the point that there is no way reality can match up? Heresy I say, heresy!!!!
DeleteOn a more serious note, I agree. I've been waiting for a long long time for Chaos to move away from being Spikey Imperials, so I'm happy. But all the 'i don't like it" or "this is ugly" is sadly not a shock.
Its kind of funny. People say they want GW to change stuff, revamp things, and get creative, and yet when they actually do it, a very vocal part of the community who were clamoring for the change complain. And then they wonder why GW ignores them so much.
Thanks for the pics Natfka... Do you have any idea if your source may be holding back info/pics of other releases... ie codex, cultists, helbrute, obliterators, raptor variant etc?
ReplyDeleteThanks again mate, it's appreciated!
Dragon: I like it. Was hoping for something more organic/daemonic but there is something about it I like. Although it could just be the angle the photo is taken from
ReplyDeleteForgefiend: Ugly as hell
Slaughterfiend: In the earlier post of the WD cover I wasn't looking forward to this but after this new picture I am a fan
Warpsmith: I really like the model. Not planning on using one but will buy one none the less
Warp Talons: I was hoping for some daemonic looking Raptors but sadly we get these instead. I'm not sold on them at all and assuming we get plastic Raptors, i'll be converting them to Warp Talons
Overall: When I first saw the Decimator siege engine I almost came in my pants. Everything about it shouted I AM CHAOS INCARNATE! I don't even come close to the same feeling with these models. They still feel like spikey marines to me.
I think i'll probably run my Blood Slaughterers as Slaughterfiends and once i've seen more of the dragon, decide whether to look elsewhere to represent it.
I'm considering buying FW Hellblade to run with Drake's rules as I expect that wingy thing to be at 45-50 £. Agree with you on raptors, that's not a Chaos look, but cartoon villains, I'll definitely go for heavy conversion.
DeleteI'm contemplating the Warpfire Dragon from Warhammer Forge. It looks like it just popped out the Warp to say hello and is probably about the right size.
DeleteSHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY!!!
ReplyDeleteWow, dragon is not what expected but good, REALLY hope it has multiple options though... Either way, I'm gonna get one for my orks to ride and call it a looted dakkajet xD
ReplyDeleteForgefiend has two plasma cannons (and a suspicions barrel in the main head) so I doubt they'd take plasma cannons off dreads/hellbrutes/etc.
Warpsmith... So chaos hired Doctor Octopus? xD zooming on the picture helps, but it's most likely one to see in person before really judging. The helmet looks kinda cool (from what you can make out) but I hope it's not finecast, those tentacles will never make it! Please, please, PLEASE! More plastic characters for 40k!!!!
I was just hoping after DV we would see more organic/warped stuff. Don't understand the dragon personally. Dosn't seem very chaos.
ReplyDeleteMore pics up from fw for HH
ReplyDeleteWow spinal mounted smoke stacks, can anyone else here say "Warmachine" rip off?
ReplyDeleteI think the term is "inspired" not rip off for businesses.
DeleteAnd Tyranids copied Zerg!
DeleteI just want to know if I can still use the nine friggin' dreadnoughts I already have. I think the Hellbrute is a ridiculous model, festooned with flimsy spikes and tongues and nearly impossible to convert. With a bit of luck, the actual model will have OPTIONS. These photos give me hope and a certain frisson! The Dragon makes a certain kind of Horus Heresy sense, doesn't it? All in all, a grip of weird and stunning stuff. I will be very poor for Christmas...
ReplyDeleteShot in the dark, but the description from the Warp Talons page hints that perhaps they will be able to assault after deep-striking like Vanguard Veterans.
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to the magazine's release so we can all get the official word on these.
Great GOOGLYMOOGLY.... they're fraking AWESOME!!!
ReplyDeleteUtter crap. GW I was going to drop £300 on new minis for my WB army, now I'm just going to eBay said army.
ReplyDeleteThe daemon engines look like they have been ripped of off final fantasy, the warpsmith looks good, and the warp talons look like the possessed kit we have + cool jumppacks
ReplyDeletemeh :S shame.... this was GW's moment to shine, but im sure theres a ton more stuff
The new chaos stuff... is pathetic..
ReplyDeleteMore pics for other units soon please.
Are the fiends on a 40mm or flyer base?
ReplyDeleteAt first I was a little bit stunned by these pics but I'm starting to see the how GW have re-imagined Chaos Marines. I personally don't like the colour scheme of the warp talons as they are too colurful for Chaos in my own opinion. I'm imagining the new army to be like a misshapen, warp ridden, shambiling tide of mutated half construct, half biomechanical renegades and I think I can live with that to be honest. I'm not too sold on the dragon though. I would have preferred a sleeker jet-style flyer so I might proxy a forgeworld model or something. Lets wait until we see the range together before we start doing a Dakka Dakka on these initial images.

Natfka, I want to thank you for getting this info to us. I don't think it matters what anyone's opinion is if they love them or hate them, I think it's safe to say that we really appreciate everything you're doing for us.
ReplyDeleteI agree with XinZ Natfka. You are an asset to the community.
